Artwork Part 6

 
The video installation room. If you have seen from my previous posts this is the door with the mirror cut out so you can peer in. I am planning on having a video playing projected onto one of the walls. The video is a home video of me when I was two or three on a family holiday with Dad. The audience will be able to hear the video throughout the caravan but only see it if they peer into the room. I wanted to use a mirror instead of just a door as it is a symbol with multiple meanings. The Latin term speculum brings out the cognitive side, as it "speculates" on the image of reality; the French term miroir (origin of the English "mirror") dwells on the contemplative role, deriving from the Latin mirare, "to look at", implying as well the inevitable self-contemplation.
