This aspect of the caravan, the bed, I felt was very significant to my work. All of my work is very representational and for my Dissertation I wrote about symbolism and allegory used in contemporary art. One of the allegorical figures was Flora, goddess of Spring who represents the union of the opposite principles of chastity and love. I responded visually to this by creating a "phallic floral" whose petals where made up of the silhouettes of couples having sex. The association of the rose being romantic juxtaposed with the explicit content, was in my eyes the representation of both principles. I wanted the print to be situated on the bed specifically to hint at the notion of "you've made your bed now lie in it" associating with adultery and sex. The felt letters on the pillows are each hand sewn on. I wanted the content to be positive and negative; the resentment and anger I felt displayed on one the lesson I learnt from his mistake and my monogamous values on the other. I also placed my childhood blanket on the bed as a sign of nostalgia with the horses having both a celestial and subterranean aspect.
